The Silent Strength of Care: A Tribute to Special Needs Individuals and Their Caregivers

๐Ÿงก The Silent Strength of Care

For two weeks, I was cooking different meals, not because I was a chef or preparing for a food competition, but because one of my siblings was ill and didn’t have a ‘normal’ appetite. Or should I say, he didn’t have an appetite at all.

If the general meal was rice and sauce, he’d ask you to take it outside, claiming that it smelled.

Ah! That meant making his meals different from everyone else’s, even though he didn’t feel like eating.
Fresh fish pepper soup, one of his favourites, suddenly became nauseating to him.

Now, let’s not even talk about the stress of cooking two different meals when everyone could have just eaten the same thing at once. The stress of preparing the meals… the mental fatigue from thinking about what might entice him…

A Moment of Realization

In the middle of all this, I found myself wondering:
How do caregivers of people with special needs cope? How do they carry all that stress and still show up smiling and full of life?

There were days I had to tepid-sponge him because he couldn’t bathe himself. Some days, I ended up eating his food just so it wouldn’t go to waste.

To Every Special Needs Individual

Your strength is not small.
Fighting through the odds of abnormalities… striving for knowledge… learning musical instruments and survival skills… trying to find your place in a world full of segregation…

Your strength, indeed, is not small.
My heart is with you.

๐Ÿ’– To Every Caregiver

To the guardians, parents, and teachers who care for these special ones:

You are more than heroes. You are love personified.

For your presence, your efforts, your sacrifices, for it all, I say thank you.
For putting smiles on their faces, even when it means crying behind the scenes… thank you.

๐Ÿ’› Caregivers are the silent heroes among us.
